Our Visit to Blue Lagoon

There may be no better introduction to Iceland than soaking in the milky blue waters of the Blue Lagoon after stepping off a red-eye flight. Located just minutes from Keflavík International Airport, it’s the ideal first stop before heading into Reykjavík or beginning a road trip around the island. After a long overnight flight, easing into the warm, mineral-rich water felt like hitting reset — the steam rising into the cool Icelandic air instantly woke us up while somehow relaxing us at the same time.

The lagoon’s geothermal water, rich in silica and minerals, is naturally heated and stays comfortably warm year-round. Floating in the surreal blue water, surrounded by black lava fields, truly feels like arriving on another planet — in the best way possible. We took our time, enjoyed the silica mud mask included with entry, and let the travel fatigue melt away before officially starting our Iceland adventure.

Whether you’re visiting at sunrise after an early arrival or stopping by before a departure flight, the Blue Lagoon is more than just a spa experience — it’s a soft landing into Iceland’s dramatic landscapes. For us, it set the tone perfectly: relaxed, refreshed, and ready to explore.
