Walking the Charles Bridge

The Charles Bridge is one of Prague’s most iconic landmarks and a place you’ll likely cross more than once during your visit. Stretching across the Vltava River and connecting Old Town with Lesser Town, the bridge dates back to the 14th century and is lined with striking Baroque statues on both sides. Walking across it feels like stepping into a living postcard, with views of Prague Castle rising above the city in the distance.

We loved taking our time here — stopping to admire the statues, watching street musicians perform, and soaking in the incredible river views. The bridge offers beautiful photo opportunities in every direction, whether you’re looking toward the red rooftops of Old Town or up toward the castle complex. It’s one of those places where the atmosphere alone makes it worth lingering.

Our biggest tip: go early. Very early. Charles Bridge gets extremely crowded as the day goes on, especially in peak travel seasons. Walking across just after sunrise is a completely different experience — quieter, calmer, and perfect for photos without the sea of tourists. The soft morning light over the river makes it even more magical.
