🌋 Geysir & Strokkur
Watch Strokkur erupt every few minutes, sending steaming water high into the air. The entire geothermal area bubbles, steams, and smells unmistakably Icelandic.
💧 Gullfoss Waterfall

🍺 Ölverk Brewery
End the day in Hveragerði with craft beer and pizza before heading back to Reykjavík — a relaxed finish after a full day of exploring.
Drive the Golden Circle
The Golden Circle is Iceland’s most iconic day trip for good reason — it packs waterfalls, geysers, tectonic landscapes, geothermal spas, farms, and incredible food into one unforgettable route. Just a short drive from Reykjavík, the loop is easy to navigate and offers constantly changing scenery, from lava fields and steaming earth to dramatic canyon views and open countryside.
Starting at Þingvellir National Park, you quite literally walk between continents as the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart. From there, the route unfolds naturally: geothermal steam rises at Geysir, Strokkur erupts every few minutes like clockwork, and Gullfoss thunders powerfully into a rugged canyon. The combination of natural power and accessible viewpoints makes every stop feel cinematic.
One of the best parts of the Golden Circle is how customizable it is. You can soak at Laugarvatn Fontana, visit Icelandic horses at a local farm, enjoy lunch inside a tomato greenhouse at Friðheimar (they make a tomato beer!), or end your day with pizza and craft beer in Hveragerði. It’s a perfect balance of iconic sights and uniquely Icelandic experiences.
Tip: Start early — especially in peak season. The Golden Circle is popular, and tour buses typically begin arriving mid-morning. Leaving Reykjavík by 8:00 AM (or earlier in summer) lets you experience places like Þingvellir and Gullfoss with fewer crowds and softer morning light. It makes a huge difference in both atmosphere and photos.
