Our Experience at Vik Horse Adventure
Riding along VĂk’s black sand beach on an Icelandic horse felt like stepping into a scene from a movie. With the Atlantic waves crashing beside us and dramatic basalt cliffs rising in the distance, the setting alone made this experience unforgettable. The contrast of the dark volcanic sand against the moody sky created such a striking backdrop — it’s hard to imagine a more uniquely Icelandic way to explore the coastline.
The Icelandic horses were truly the highlight. Smaller in stature but incredibly sturdy and gentle, they were calm, responsive, and full of personality. Learning about the breed’s history and their unique five-gait tölt added another layer to the experience. Whether you’re a beginner or more experienced rider, the guides make you feel comfortable and confident before heading out onto the beach.
One of our favorite parts was spending time with the horses after the ride. Being able to slow down, pet them, take photos, and simply appreciate these incredible animals made the experience feel more personal and meaningful. It wasn’t just a tour — it felt like a genuine connection to Iceland’s culture and landscape.
