Our Visit to Schönbrunn Palace

Visiting Schönbrunn Palace was one of the highlights of our time in Vienna. The former summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty is grand without feeling overwhelming, and walking through the lavishly decorated state rooms gives you a real sense of Austria’s imperial history. From gilded ceilings to intricate chandeliers and beautifully preserved furnishings, every room feels like stepping back into a different era.

We highly recommend planning extra time to explore beyond the palace itself. The expansive Schönbrunn Gardens are stunning and completely worth wandering through — from the perfectly manicured parterres to the hilltop Gloriette with sweeping views back over the palace. Y ou could easily spend hours strolling the grounds. The Tiergarten Schönbrunn (Vienna Zoo), located right on the palace grounds, is another must-visit, especially if you’re traveling with kids. It’s one of the oldest zoos in the world and beautifully maintained.

Our biggest tip: book an early entry time for the palace tour. Arriving first thing in the morning makes a huge difference — the rooms are less crowded, the experience feels more relaxed, and you can really take your time without being rushed along by large tour groups. Between the palace interiors, the gardens, and the zoo, Schönbrunn is absolutely a full-day experience.
