Our Visit to the Schönbrunn Zoo
Tiergarten Schönbrunn (Schönbrunn Zoo) completely exceeded our expectations. Located right on the palace grounds, it’s one of the oldest zoos in the world — but it feels modern, spacious, and beautifully designed. The layout makes it easy to explore at your own pace, with shaded paths and thoughtfully created habitats throughout.
We especially loved seeing the giant pandas — a rare and unforgettable experience — along with the lions, tigers, and elephants. Each enclosure felt well cared for, and the animals seemed active and engaged during our visit. From big cats to rainforest species and Arctic wildlife, there’s an incredible variety that keeps things exciting around every corner.
You could easily spend half a day here, especially if traveling with kids, but even adults will find it impressive and enjoyable. Pairing the zoo with the palace and gardens makes for a full, well-rounded day at Schönbrunn. It’s not just an add-on — it’s truly a destination in its own right.
