Our Experience - Taste of Little Italy San Diego

This Little Italy Food Tour in San Diego was our very first food tour ever — and years later, it still remains the holy grail of food tours and our favorite we’ve experienced anywhere.

From the very beginning, our guide Anthony made this tour truly special. He was outgoing, friendly, organized, passionate, and incredibly welcoming. As he walked us through Little Italy, sharing the history of the neighborhood, his love for the area and its people shined through in everything he said. Anthony isn’t just a guide hired to walk you from restaurant to restaurant — Anthony is Little Italy, and that genuine connection made the entire experience feel personal and unforgettable.

The evening struck the perfect balance of food, stories, and history, all while strolling through one of San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhoods. It felt less like a tour and more like being welcomed into the heart of Little Italy by someone who truly loves it.

And then there was the food — absolutely incredible. We visited four different stops and sampled a wide variety of dishes, 13 in total, with portions that were far more generous than what you’ll find on many food tours. This is not a “light bites” experience, so be sure to come hungry.

At our first two restaurants, Davanti Enoteca and Solunto, we enjoyed an array of savory dishes including artichokes, polenta, focaccia stuffed with cheese, gnocchi, and more. After walking through the neighborhood and learning even more about its history, the tour wrapped up on a sweet note with gelato — and the hard (but fun) choice of two flavors.

All in all, this was a wonderful evening of incredible food made even more memorable by one of the best guides we’ve ever had. As our first food tour, it set the bar incredibly high — and to this day, it remains our all-time favorite. A true 10/10 experience and an easy recommendation for anyone living in or visiting San Diego.
