Our Experience - Cabrillo National Monument
Cabrillo National Monument sits at the tip of Point Loma, offering some of the most stunning panoramic views in all of San Diego. From this elevated coastal perch, you can see the Pacific Ocean stretching endlessly to the west and the San Diego skyline glistening across the bay to the east.
The monument itself honors Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo, who became the first European explorer to set foot on the West Coast of the United States in 1542. His statue stands proudly overlooking the water, marking a key moment in California’s early exploration history.
One of the highlights of visiting Cabrillo National Monument is exploring the surrounding landscape. The area features scenic coastal trails that offer incredible viewpoints along the cliffs, as well as access to tide pools that reveal a completely different side of the coastline during low tide.
Another major stop within the park is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, a beautifully preserved structure that offers a glimpse into what coastal navigation looked like in the 1800s. Combined with the natural beauty of the area, it makes Cabrillo National Monument a perfect mix of history and scenery.
Whether you’re there for the views, the history, or just a peaceful coastal walk, Cabrillo National Monument is one of those San Diego spots that quietly ends up being a highlight of the entire trip.
