Our Experience - Fort Pulaski National Monument
Fort Pulaski National Monument preserves one of the finest examples of a masonry coastal fort in the United States and offers visitors an impressive combination of history, architecture, and natural beauty. Located between Savannah and Tybee Island, the fort sits amid Georgia's coastal marshes and provides an easy and worthwhile stop while exploring the region.
Constructed in the early 1800s to defend the port of Savannah, Fort Pulaski became nationally significant during the Civil War when Union forces successfully used rifled cannons to breach its walls. The battle demonstrated how advances in artillery had made traditional masonry forts obsolete and changed military fortification design around the world.
