Our Experience - Tuzigoot National Monument
Tuzigoot National Monument preserves the remains of a large hilltop pueblo built by the Sinagua people between approximately 1000 and 1400 AD. Sitting above the Verde Valley near Clarkdale and Cottonwood, the site offers visitors both a fascinating archaeological experience and some beautiful views of central Arizona.
Unlike some other ancient sites in the Southwest, Tuzigoot allows visitors to walk directly through portions of the pueblo and experience the layout of the community firsthand. The elevated location provides an appreciation for why this spot was chosen, offering visibility across the surrounding valley and nearby waterways.
The visitor center helps bring the history of the Sinagua people to life through exhibits and artifacts recovered from the site, adding important context to the ruins themselves.
Tuzigoot may not receive the same attention as some of Arizona's larger attractions, but its combination of history, accessibility, and scenery makes it one of the state's most rewarding hidden gems.
